New York, New York

September 17, 2012 § 1 Comment

We were taken on an International extravaganza at the Spring 2013 Ready to Wear showings this New York Fashion Week. The catwalks were inspired by faraway lands and willed the fash crowd to pack our bags. There were hints of India (Marchesa) and Africa (Tory Burch), detours to ancient Japan (The Row), and a throwback to the 1950s (Alice and Olivia) and medieval times (Rodarte).

Leather was a huge trend again, so if you’re still not onboard this trend, then I definitely recommend investing now, as it seems there’s longevity here. If you’re not prepared to go full-blown rocker, then opt for leather inserts or splices as Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs have.

Speaking of Marc, he once again took the Runway to fantasy level, with Australia’s very own Ruby Jean opening the show in an Edie Sedgwick inspired look.

Harnesses were huge on the runways this season, with my favourite looks presented by Herve Leger, who successfully managed to toughen up their traditional bandage dresses.

One of my favourite trends was the manipulation of sparkle into daytime fabrics, since bling is practically a religion for me, I will definitely be rocking some daytime sparkle.

Golds, nudes and reds were big everywhere, from Michael Kors to Marchesa; Natural jewel tones were presented at Rachel Roy and Rachel Zoe, and big bold colours at Catherine Malandrino and Diane Von Furstenberg. It definitely seems that this season, any colour goes!

Below is a selection of some of my favourite looks…odd that it’s so monochromatic since you all know how much I crave colour, but these styles seemed effortless, cool and chic; exactly espousing the je ne sais quoi of The Big Apple.

In honour of the monochromatic menage that we’ve seen on the NYFW catwalks this week, I thought I would dedicate this weeks Fashgasm to the old classic: Black and White.

Now of course my B vs W has to be dripping in sequins…you may have spied this kaftan in our Spring Summer Campaign pics worn with Escape, but today I thought I’d match them with these amazing Amelie’s. There are many things I love about these shoes, not least of all the whopping 14cm killer heels. Aaah bliss. But seriously, how cute is the cut-out at the heel…so on-trend with today’s fashion. And I particularly love the white pearlised leather for a touch of added texture. So cool!

Worn here with a basic slip from another great Melbourne brand, Spencer Lacy, as well and jewels from Topshop. I’m all about these plated 5-finger rings.

So I was rocking this outfit yesterday and getting some interesting glances. Thought I’d share it with you dear Sirens, to hear your sartorial suggestions.

It all started with these reptilian rollers from Brissy label Claude and Me. A little outrageous, but super fun to wear!

I’ve toned down the styling so the leggings can play hero, and paired it with an embellished shoulder blazer from Uscari and my go-to stomping boots, ‘Final’ .

Would love to hear your thoughts on this lary legging trend as I’m sure it will be big this Summer!

Vive le Anna

It’s a sad day today as we in the fashion world mourn one of the greatest Style Icons to ever live: Anna Piaggi

Anna was a true visionary, an inspiration for not only me but many of today’s fashion freaks…hello Gaga!

Gotta admit her style is a little cray cray sometimes, but isn’t that what fashion’s all about?! Having fun, taking risks and not taking yourself too seriously. Beyond fierce and creative genius I particularly love how she boldly clashes patterns and textures.

I truly hope I have this imagination, confidence and half as good a wardrobe as hers when I’m her age!!

Long Live Anna!!

I stumbled onto this selection of eye-candy while strolling for some new inspiration, and just had to share it with you dear Sirens.

Showcased below are the Fall Collections, splendidly shot by famed photographer Steven Meisel, for Vogue Italia’s July Edition. And proudly perched amidst a bevy of long-legged ladies is Australia’s very own Julia Nobis. Proud!

Styling by Karl Templer and quirky set design by Mary Howard.

Which one’s your fav? Mine has to be the Versace…love the bling!

Behind The Scenes…

It’s been a super exciting week here at Siren HQ, in fact you probably heard all the oohs and aahs from your place! My favourite time of year is here again…new collections are IN! Between the metallic plating, the patterned heels and the bold brights, the gushing got a little ridic. Let’s just say the whole collection is seriously next level.

Now of course I can’t reveal too much today, but I did want to unleash a sneaky peek to set you salivating for Sirens’ this summer. Below is a selection of behind the scenes shots from the campaign shoot.

I’m sure you’ve spotted some detailing in there to die for!

This weeks’ Friday Fashgasm got a little more airtime than usual! I was chuffed to be a guest contributor to The Morning Show’s Style Squad to dish a little Fashion Police on the weekly looks! Of course I wore my towering ‘Disconnect’ heels – I thought they were very morning TV appropriate…don’t you think 😉

Wanting to make a bold impression I rocked a neon citrus Celeb Boutique bandage frock. Love a long sleeve on a mini-dress and love love love this Neon colour. I’ve been asked a few times how best to wear it, if you’re bold like me then clash it with equally bold colours like this seasons Ruby. Or if you want a slightly tamer look, I love nude and neon together at the moment. And of course, this colour will always pop with some denim.

I accessorised with a Lovisa statement Aqua neckpiece and some equally statement nails. And toughened the look up a bit with some plated ‘knuckle-duster’ inspired rings from Asos.

Friday Fashgasm!!

July 13, 2012 § 12 Comments

Phew! Another week has flown by, and again time for a Friday Fashgasm!

Today’s look has a slight nautical theme to it, which all began with the pants, a new purchase from Forever New…love the silky texture and the man-style tailoring. Jacket is from Topshop and the floral brooch has been screaming from my wardrobe to be worn for a while now!

Jewels are from Lovisa, a cheap ‘n chic fav of mine, as we all know, you can never have too much bling! And you might be able to catch a glimpse of my Yankee-inspired nail foil. Totes unintentional, but kinda love how it all works in with the look 🙂

The highlight of the outfit, IMO, is of course the killer ‘ANGLE’ heels. These are without a doubt one of my fav shoes of all time! LOVE LOVE LOVE them. If I was to die and come back as a shoe, I would look something like this! Love the bright colours and they are obscenely tall – great for shorties like moi! They are literally cab to kerb heels.

As always dear Sirens, please post yours: http://www.facebook.com/sirenshoes (or simply click on Facebook icon below)…

SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN…

July 12, 2012 § Leave a comment

It’s official, I have fallen head over heels in love with the seasons hottest colour, Teal!

Call it what you will: Teal, Petrol, Jade…you know what I mean…it’s not blue not green but somewhere in between!

Of course we at Siren have done the most heaven bootie in it, the Donna, can’t you just picture this with err, mostly everything this winter?

If you’re not convinced just yet, here’s a little inspiration to see you turn all shades of green? Or was it teal?

PS. The wings are strictly for fun!
