Cannes Carpet Crunch…

May 25, 2012 § Leave a comment

It takes an event like the Annual Cannes Film Festival to pump up the glam stakes on the Red Carpet and this year certainly didn’t disappoint!

This post definitely needs to start with an ode to the best dressed gal in Cannes. Behold Diane Kruger, who has had a spectacularly flawless run this Festival and has currently sent me into a spin as my new mah-jor girl crush.

She first stepped out in sequinned Vivienne Westwood, then backed that up with ethereal Giambattista Valli and finally sheer Jason Wu. It’s actually hard to pick a fav…the Westwood is so perfectly tailored to her, but the Wu is effortlessly cool – I love the masculine tailoring softened in lace and asymmetrical drape. A-maze!       D-Krug you rock my world!

Running a close second to Ms Kruger is the suprising Frieda Pinto – proving well and truly that when the right dress is put on the right girl – she can transform from mere actress to International superstar. My favourite look of hers has to be the Atelier Versace neon lace. There is soooo much going on in this dress: sequins, peplum, asymmetry, thigh split, lace; with all this detail, this dress would overpower most. But, by keeping the styling clean and simple she totally shines in this hot frock. Another memorable look was in Michael Angel – again bang on trend, fitting perfectly and beautifully styled. Frieda whoever you’ve hired as your Cannes stylist…keep working with them!

Next up is another frock that literally took my breath away. As a seasoned fashion aficionado it takes a lot to wow me, but I am officially wow-ed! I love this combo of the clean, crisp lines we’ve been seeing so much of lately (remember Gwyn in Tom Ford) but this time playfully mixed up with the dip-dye feathers! So fun and flirty but cool and elegant all at the same time. Bravo Cheryl Cole and Stephane Roland! Heaven!

I do love a long train on the Red Carpet especially when it’s done so magnificently as Marchesa have done here. Many leading ladies tried this trend at Cannes and they were often underwhelming but the divine Eva Longoria pulled it off spectacularly!

A shock inclusion on the Best Dressed list is Ms Tilda Swinton…I appreciate that she takes risks on the Red Carpet but so often gets it ‘oh so wrong’. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised to see her rocking this structural Haider Ackerman piece. The masculine lines of the drape and the blush tones are perfection on her!

Natasha Poly cuts a saucy minx in Gucci! Love a little emerald on the Red Carpet and when you have a bod like hers you may as well show as much of it as you can! Props NP, not many babes could pull this off!

And of course so proud to see the Aussie contingent representing in Cannes. Naomi Watts floating in feathery Marchesa and Melissa George styled in Calvin Klein…BUT my fav Aussie has to be my client Deborah Mailman wearing local designer Matthew Eager. Not gonna lie…was a proud day seeing her shining in Cannes!

Bootylicious

With Autumn well and truly blowing its tempestuous flag, it’s time to get clever with our trans-seasonal styling so that we can all transition effortlessly.

If you’re like me you’d do just about anything to stretch a few more days out of those summery dresses before covering up the pins for the depths of winter. And the easiest way to achieve this is with boots. Obvi.

Often I get asked “How do I wear an ankle boot with a dress?” and today dear Sirens I hope to inform, enlighten and inspire some good ol’ fashioned boot-scooting.

First and foremost you need to determine which shape of boot suits your leg best. This will be a personal decision and will be based on heel height, circumference of the topline and height of the shaft. There’s no right or wrong here and trust me you’ll know as soon as you put on a winning pair as your legs will instantly elongate. Ankle boots have a tendency to shorten the leg if not fitted properly, so if you don’t get the longing effect, then try playing around with these three proportions until you find a winner. PS..the first thing I would be changing is the shaft height.

Next up decide the occasion for the boot: evening, smart-casual or day wear and as you can see from the Celebs below, the ankle boot transitions easily for all situations. Then compliment your chosen bootie with an outfit to match. Again throw the rules out the window and style your look with flair and individuality. Most styles look great from mini to maxi and all in between, but as a basic rule I would advise against a pencil skirt and urge you towards volume: pleated, tulip or gathered styles are best: much more flattering for the pins!

Hosiery is always a great way to give legs their own identity, and don’t be afraid to rock some clashing colour and textures between frock and heel, but always remember these should be a full length hose never a cropped tight.

So sassy Sirens, how are you feeling about your boots now? Any questions hit me up below, otherwise I look forward to seeing your frocks out and boots on for at least a couple more weeks yet!

In case you’re still in need of convincing here are some of my fav bootylicious looks and of course my top three Siren styles!

Phew! What an exciting, inspiring and exhausting Fashion Week. I’m back in the land of the living after several much needed foot massages and finally, after much deliberation, have chosen my top 12 looks of the week. I was only planning on 10 but got a little carried away…as you do.

These are my lust after looks for this coming Spring/Summer….I can already hear my bank account screaming *sighs*

AJE – You all know how I love a little bling

Alice McCall – Sheer + Brights + Patterned. Sweet & fun!

Aurelio Costarello – Seriously die for this. Fur+Bling – what more could a girl want???

By Johnny – Peplum cuteness!

Christopher Esber – Wish I was cool enough to pull this off!

Ellery – Metallics and sheers are one of my fav combo’s. I love the double shoulder detail on this top – kinda looks like the photo is 3D if you blur your eyes

For today’s Friday Fashgasm we salute all women!

In honour of the Ovarian Cancer White Shirt campaign I am proudly donning my embroidered ensemble, with a hint of edge in the scarf-print pant.

These ‘MELT’ wedges are fast becoming my daily wheels: comfy enough to rock the day in yet chic enough to strut out at night. A total must-have this winter!

Ok Sirens you know the drill, now it’s over to you! Post your Fashgasm here: https://www.facebook.com/sirenshoes so we can reward your sense of style.

Happy Friday!!

Siren x Toni Maticevski

If I had to choose just one brand to spend all of Spring Summer in, it would be Toni Maticevski! The talented designer just unveiled an ultra-modern, sleek and sophisticated collection on the catwalks of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week that mixed just the right amount of glam and cool.

And of course which shoe did he choose to match with this spectacular collection??? Siren. Obvi!

We got exclusive behind the scenes access and managed to snap a few pics before having a chat to the heavenly designer himself. Check out the interview on Siren’s facebook wall, where he explains how a little late night stalking led him to us!

Such a beautiful man. Such beautiful clothes. Nuff said. Below are my favs! Drooooool….

Siren x Romance Was Born

May 1, 2012 § Leave a comment

Bam! Pow! Smack! Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicked off with a bang this year thanks to Romance Was Born and Siren Shoes. We were approached by the creative brand to provide shoes for their show and when they mentioned the theme was Super Heroes our inner Wonder Woman jumped with joy.

Anna and Luke the design duo behind Romance Was Born selected the Ashley style – a very Gladiator-esque platform sandal – and in true RWB style, customised to suit. Check out all the styles!

We managed to sneak backstage and amid the hustle and bustle of post-show chaos stole a little interview….jump onto Siren’s facebook page to view… (Apologies for the sound it was mayhem back there!)

The show was a pop-tastic blend of comic book inspired colour and design….here are a few of my fav looks. Now ummmm, just need to find an event to wear them too!
