Milano Fashion Week

“Let’s just have a good time; we got it comin’.” was the opening track of the Moschino show and in these days of downturn, you can imagine the Italians clinging to the sentiments of that song. And we all revered the Italians for delivering everything we’ve grown to love and expect from them: a week filled with glamour, colour and energy. Vivre Milano!

There were monochromatic glimpses, following on from NYCFW to indicate we’ll inevitably be heading in that direction. Prada, Missoni, Marni and Pucci – houses all renowned for their use of colour divulged completely monochromatic pieces in an iconoclastic move.

But when the Milanese did do colour they went over the top, with colour worn head-to-quite-literally-toe with sunglasses, bags and shoes matched to outfits like at Gucci. Antonio Marras and Blumarine showed almost the entire spectrum of the rainbow palette.

Prints were everywhere. Paisley at Etro, Python at Just Cavalli, and more bizarrely street-theatre puppets, and collectible head-shaped vases and dishes at Dolce and Gabbana. Strikingly lacking in prints was Emilio Pucci – the house that was virtually built on the print.

Artisanship of Japan was referenced everywhere with reworked Kimonos at Prada, Etro and Pucci.

Constructed, futuristic uppers at Fendi will definitely be the most coveted shoe of the season with a style that almost subtly referenced the Sydney Opera House…maybe Karl dashed down under for his inspiration??? Although the creeper of the week has to be the fabulous Beth Ditto from Gossip belting out her hit “Standing in the Way of Control” at the Versus parade.

Below are my selects of the week…which one’s your fav????
